The
Vanguard 15 is a double handed, one-design boat. It is lighter, faster, and
easier to transport than many other comparable dinghies. The V-15 is ideal for
both high caliber fleet racing and for day sailing with the family. The V-15
has also become the standard for international team racing.
The
Vanguard 15 class was founded about 8 years ago and is one of the fastest
growing classes in the country. The V15 class has an average of 60 events per
year, 38 established fleets, 400 class members, with over 1000 boat owners
across the United States. The largest V15 Fleets Nationally are in San
Francisco, CA; Galveston Bay Texas; Larchmont, NY; Chicago, Il and all of New
England where the boats are built. Colleges and Yacht Clubs have started
purchasing V15 fleets as they are becoming the double-handed,
high speed, simple, durable, lightweight, transportable, competitive, fun
class to sail in. This class is growing rapidly across all ages and sailing
levels and offers a fun yet competitive fleet that is easy to get involved in.
Regionally,
the SSA V15 fleet is Area C. We currently have 16 V15s at SSA with 5 scheduled
events for this season. The Local Fleet Captains are Polly Gibbons-Neff polly@thesailingcompany.com

There are also active fleets within our region who come and participate in the
SSA events in Beaufort, North Carolina – (12 boats); Hampton, VA
(10 boats). SSA holds the only active Maryland Fleet. We have hosted the National
Mid-Atlantic Championships for the last 5 years and will be hosting it
again over Memorial Day Weekend. The local
